Changed conditions puts demands on farm machinery

Recent weather events have tested endurance of Wimmera farmers and put even more demands on their farm machinery.

During the drought farmers could not always afford to upgrade machinery and they would make do with what they had. The wet weather has brought challenges to some who have managed to get by with older less innovative tractors and machinery. Fortunately, good yields and relatively high prices this year have provided farmers with the opportunity to upgrade or update machinery.

Today’s high tech farm machinery is designed with flexibility and options that ensure farmers can choose machinery with the specifications suited to their conditions in order to maximize productivity and remain competitive.

“Everyone has different needs – land size, produce type, climate, soil variations and so forth,” says Peter Emmett, Managing Director, Emmetts Group. “High-value crops require highly specified equipment, that’s why we are encouraging farmers to Build Your Own John Deere tractor, seeding equipment or sprayer.”

Emmetts BYO (Build Your Own) program for example allows farmers to improve productivity by selecting the right HP engine for their implements, matching tyre combinations to soil types or farming practices, choosing a suitable transmission for speed ranges, altering the cabin layout for greater comfort, or installing precision ag gear direct from the factory to name a few. Building a tractor to the most suitable specifications will not only increase productivity but also avoids compromises when buying farm machinery from dealer stock.

Worldwide demand for John Deere farm machinery is high so is pays to order well in advance of the season when building a tractor or sprayer to your own specifications. To encourage farmers to order in advance Emmetts are offering attractive financing options.

According to Peter Emmett, the wet has provided an opportunity for Grizzly’s Wheel Track Renovator.

“When the farm machines started to harvest and plough, their tracks left the soil compacted and created the pooling of water, causing great damage to paddocks, says Emmett. “But thankfully, Grizzly has engineered a one-off conventional style disc plough to break through deep wheel tracks while also incorporating heavy stubble loads immediately after the harvest allowing moisture content to remain in the crop residue.”

The Wimmera Machinery Field Days provides farmers with the opportunity to see the Grizzly, explore custom options and seek advice from Emmetts’ experts on how to individually custom your machinery.

Emmetts are dealers for John Deere, Krone, Goldacres, MacDon, Echo, Grizzly and many more. Emmetts are on sites A23-35 at the Wimmera Machinery Field Days on 1-3 March.
