The round-shaped polyethylene tank is fully cradled by the frame and gives the machine a low center of gravity. This comes together with the standard double-linked ProRoad axle suspension, providing stability on the road or in the field.

With its low center of gravity and even weight distribution, the M900 Series is built for stability. The entire mainframe is designed especially for the job. The heart of the mainframe is the cross structure in the center section to redirect forces, providing strength for a long lifetime. The frame design cradles the large polyethylene tank perfectly. The special tank shape offers deep sump while the steeply sloping bottom limits chemical residues. Due to the special tank design, additional tank baffles are not needed. It is easier to agitate liquid due to the smooth tank that has less risk of spray solution sticking to the inside of the tank.

The heavy-duty axle is fully integrated and comes standard with ProRoad double-linked axle suspension.

The frame, tank, and single axle design offer better maneuverability. Regardless of the boom position, the level weight distribution helps to always keep the machine steady.

Benefits of tank frame axle design include:

  • Frame axle and tank design with lower center point of gravity supports stability in the field and on the road
  • Round-shape polyethylene tank with smooth surface for perfect agitation and easier rinsing inside and outside
  • Deep sump for better emptying, even on hillsides
  • No baffles or dead corners supports better solution mixing
  • Perfect readout with dual stage dry liquid level indicator that comes standard (digital tank level indication is optional)
  • ProRoad double-linked fixed or steering axle offers better maneuverability and prevents leaning in corners
  • Axle suspension with four maintenance-free polyurethane dampers absorb the shocks, providing stability and uptime
Operator’s station layout delivers easy control during filling, spraying, and rinsing

M900i operator’s station layout with manual valves and automatic filling M900i operator’s station layout with manual valves and automatic filling

The ergonomic design of the operator’s station makes operation easy and convenient. The large handles make valves easy to set, and synchro positioning helps limit mistakes and makes filling, spraying, and rinsing easier.

The standard non-return check valve in the system prevents back flow through the filling hose. This prevents point-source pollution and chemical spillage and protects the environment.

The PowrFill chemical inductor hopper, spray gun, and clothing lockers are partly stored behind the valve area. Filters and hose connections are protected and easily accessible for operation, cleaning, or maintenance.

The chemical safety card holder is located near the platform, making the information readily available.

Benefits of operator’s station design include:

  • Less risk of mistakes with easy-to-set manual valves with large handles
  • Faster filling with 7.62-cm (3-in.) fill hose connection with non-return system check valve in base
  • 08-cm (2-in.) transfer valve to transfer liquid from main tank to external point
  • 08-cm (2-in.) quick connector for filling rinse water tank (optional)
  • Safe filling with closed chemical transfer connection (optional)
  • PowrFill chemical eductor hopper (optional)

Optimize spraying performance Optimize spraying performance

The M900 and M900i models are equipped with two durable, 6-cylinder self-priming piston diaphragm pumps designed for spray tasks.

Pumps and filling connections are in protective positions on top of the frame and partly protected by the covers. Connect the 7.62-cm (3-in.) filling hose to 7.62-cm (3-in.) filling connection; select the levers and filling starts.

An integrated, non-return check valve prevents a system backflow. The ball valve at the filling hose connection comes standard to allow easier disconnection of the filling hose.

  • Two self-priming pumps with 560-L (148-gal.) capacity and a collective 12 cylinders work together when filling
  • In spray mode, one pump is used for spraying and one pump is used for agitation functions
  • Solution system flow delivers a maximum output to the boom of 250 L/min (66 gpm)
  • Pumps are located on top of the mainframe to keep clearance at the drawbar and remain protected by shielding
  • Camlock coupling with blind cap and 7.62-cm (3-in.) filling connection
  • Maximum pump technical pressure is 20 bar (290 psi), and the system axillary pressure is set to 10 bar (145 psi) to support a longer pump lifetime
  • Non-return check valve in the solution system prevents backflow
  • Optional pump oil level sensors display warning when pump oil level is insufficient
  • Pump drive – wide-angle power take-off (PTO) is in base, hydraulic motor for pump drive is optional
  • Pump protection – using the filling connection, liquid entering the pump passes a large 30-mesh filter first

Once low flow application rates are frequently used, it is highly recommended to upgrade the machine with the low flow rate bypass kit (BWZ10081).

Pressure recirculation spray system enables concentrated spray start
Air valves ensure liquid circulates up to the nozzle bodies Air valves ensure liquid circulates up to the nozzle bodies
Full circulation with spray off (top), full supply with spray on (bottom) Full circulation with spray off (top), full supply with spray on (bottom)

Prevent underdosing or weed triangles at spray start with the pressure recirculation spray system. Pressurized spray liquid circulates right up to the nozzles. Each nozzle body is air or electric operated to provide fast on/off switching, which prevents missed areas at spray starts. The air supply lines are connected to the nozzles in a section layout.

The spray liquid is circulated directly through the spray line under pressure. This ensures the right concentration under the right pressure directly at the nozzle body and eliminates triangles of weeds in the field and under dosing when starting spraying.

This circulation also allows operators to rinse out spray lines without spraying (such as when weather conditions change).

Benefits of pressure recirculation functionality in the spray system include:

  • Limits the risk of untreated, underdosed areas or weed triangles at spray start
  • Limit overlap or skips with air-controlled valves that enable fast on-off nozzle switching
  • Fail-safe action in case air pressure is lost – valve springs close the nozzle body, preventing dripping or leakage
  • Less sedimentation when spray is off – re-circulation liquid passes though the spray lines and returns into the tank
  • Fully charged with spray on – spray lines are supplied from both ends, which limits underdosing at boom end during spray start
  • Air distribution to nozzles is based on a section layout – less dead volume compared to section valves design
  • Pressure recirculation functionally comes on the pressure recirculation spray system with 25- or 50-cm (10- or 20- in.) nozzle spacing, TwinSelect™ spray systems, and individual nozzle control spray systems

The optional TwinSelect in-cab nozzle control with pressure recirculation functionality allows immediate switching between two different nozzles, either manually or automatically. It helps to save valuable time whenever there is a need to quickly change nozzles and allows a wider range of spraying speeds for increased productivity.

TwinSelect provides five nozzle outlets split between one fixed and four manually selectable nozzle positions on the rotating body, with the ability switch between two nozzle positions from the cab.

Benefits of TwinSelect include:

  • Switching between standard and drift-reducing nozzles for field borders or spraying headlands
  • Nozzle changeover between liquid fertilizer and chemical spraying operations
  • Wider range of operating speeds by moving between different nozzle sizes as speed changes

On-center nozzle layout, best agronomic in pass-to-pass applications On-center nozzle layout, best agronomic in pass-to-pass applications

Expand the available spray window in challenging weather circumstances with 25-cm (9.8-in.) nozzle spacing. The narrowed nozzle spacing makes spray applications with reduced spray boom heights possible. Spray is less suspectable to drift in changing weather circumstances. To achieve the best agronomic results, the 25-cm (9.8-in.) nozzle spacing layout is based on an on-center design to ensure sufficient pass-to pass spray overlap. To minimize the risk of blocked nozzles or sedimentation in the spray lines, pressure recirculation is embedded, and an additional 80-mesh pressure filter is located at the center frame as close as possible to the nozzles.

The 25-cm (9.8-in.) nozzle spacing plumbing layout and spraying with lowered boom height is an officially recognized drift-reducing spray technology in multiple countries. Check with local legislation regarding which level of drift reduction classification is achieved by the 25-cm (9.8-in.) nozzle spacing spray system layout in your country.

Benefits of 25-cm (9.8-in.) spray system include:

  • Limited risk of spray drift by spraying at lower boom heights
  • Better agronomic results in pass-to-pass applications with on-center nozzle layout
  • Minimize skips or overlap by using electrically controlled nozzle shut-off valves for fast on-off switching
  • Reduce the risk of blocked nozzles with the additional 80-mesh filter
  • Limited sedimentation and a concentrated spray start with full pressure recirculation functionality
  • Flexibility in application strategy – plumbing layout allows spraying with a 25-cm (9.8-in.) and 50-cm (19.7-in.) nozzle spacing

A stable boom ride is one of the basics for a successful spray application.

TerrainCommand Pro automatically maintains a constant spray height above the crop per wing on uneven ground and in changing crop conditions, resulting in an effective deposition of spray liquid, less dissipated chemicals, better crop penetration, and reduced spray drift.

TerrainCommand Pro can be offered with three sensors (one sensor per wing and one sensor next to the center frame) or five sensors (two sensors per wing and one sensor for the center frame). The five-sensor system is only available for 27-m (88.6-ft) booms or wider.

Ultrasonic sensors mounted at each end of the boom measure the height of the boom wings above the target, the integrated IMU sensors the measure the inertia. If the slope of the field changes and the spray boom is no longer at the desired distance to the ground or crop surface, TerrainCommand Pro controls the boom variable geometry, tilt, and height automatically.

Benefits of TerrainCommand Pro include:

  • More operator comfort due to boom positioning automation
  • Increased spraying accuracy with optimum boom height above crop
  • Hybrid mode finds the balance between soil and crop prevents dipping
  • Automatic boom control enables faster spraying
  • Ability to spray in low light conditions (night)
  • Possibility to use wider booms, resulting in fewer passes
  • Works with full or symmetric boom folded position

TerrainCommand Pro in combination with AutoTrac™ automatic guidance system and Section Control offers better machine utilization. It enables spraying at night when spraying conditions are often much better (less wind and drift).

TerrainCommand Pro uses a dedicated proportional hydraulic valve to control the variable geometry on each boom wing. Proportional hydraulics offer both faster and smoother operation, with response modulated to the amount of boom movement necessary. The proportional hydraulic valve is also equipped with a temperature sensor that measures oil temperature. This feature provides compensation for the flow difference of the oil in different temperatures, enabling accurate variable geometry adjustments.

Rinsing and dilution is fast, automated, and easy with AutoDilute system
AutoDilute system purges out diluted liquid by the boom AutoDilute system purges out diluted liquid by the boom
AutoDilute pump located in the frame AutoDilute pump located in the frame

John Deere's award-winning multi-cycle dilution system for controlled liquid residue disposal is an equipment option on the M900i Sprayers.

NOTE: Always refer to the chemical package and read the safety requirements when diluting or rinsing a sprayer.

AutoDilute enables operators to dilute the remaining liquid in the main solution tank without leaving the cab. Operators save time since there is no need to walk through the sprayed crop to manually reposition sprayer valves. The time savings from AutoDilute helps operators prepare the machine faster for the next application and meets the environmental legislation in countries where dilution of the remaining crop protection chemical in the machine is a legal requirement (refer to local legal requirements).

AutoDilute provides a pre-defined dilution factor using automatic stepwise residue dilution. Continuous dilution provides a fast flush between jobs. Continuous dilution can be combined with stepwise dilution first followed by continuous dilution. The amount of rinse water can be programmed to operator needs, resulting in efficient rinse water usage.

Benefits of the AutoDilute integrated multi-cycle dilution system include:

  • Automatic dilution mode with AutoDilute – stepwise dilution to reach the operator pre-set dilution factor
  • Automatic continuous dilution to continuously dilute solution tank liquid by a pre-set rinse water volume
  • Automatic continuous dilution with pre-set dilution factor to stepwise dilution, followed by continuously diluting the solution tank liquid by a pre-set amount of rinse water volume
Functional layout of AutoDilute/continuous dilution Functional layout of AutoDilute/continuous dilution

Once AutoDilute or continuous dilution is activated, the dilution process starts with the activation of the hydraulic pump. Water is drawn out of the rinse tank and transferred from the separate AutoDilute pump to three rinsing heads. This additional rinse water flushes the inside of the tank and dilutes the remaining tank content. As soon the sprayer pump is activated, additional water dilutes the liquid system. Once the master valve is opened, diluted tank content is sprayed out. Dilution can be done automatic stepwise (AutoDilute) or in continuous dilution mode. AutoDilute pump capacity is 80 L/min (21 gpm).
