Smarter Spraying: New See & Spray Updates for 2027

John Deere has announced significant updates to its Model Year 2027 sprayer range, including the next generation of See & Spray™ technology, expanded in-crop weed detection capabilities, and new automation features designed to help growers reduce input costs, improve application accuracy, and make better use of increasingly tight spray windows.

As chemical costs continue to rise and weed resistance remains an ongoing challenge for Australian growers, precision application technology is becoming an increasingly important tool for improving profitability and agronomic outcomes.

John Deere's latest sprayer updates focus on helping growers apply the right product, at the right rate, in the right location, while reducing operator workload and improving overall spraying efficiency.

See & Spray Expands Beyond Fallow Applications

One of the most significant developments is the introduction of the next generation of See & Spray technology.

Building on the success of previous systems, the updated platform expands targeted application capabilities into a broader range of crops, including wheat, barley, canola, cotton, corn, and soybeans.

Using cameras and real-time image processing, the system can identify weeds and apply product only where it is required, helping reduce chemical use while maintaining effective weed control. For growers managing herbicide-resistant weeds or seeking to reduce input costs, the technology provides greater flexibility to tailor weed management strategies throughout the season.

New Variable Rate Application Capabilities

The latest system also introduces expanded variable rate functionality. Using live biomass measurements collected by the sprayer's camera system, application rates can be adjusted automatically at the nozzle level during fungicide, desiccation, harvest aid, and plant growth regulator applications.

This enables operators to respond to changing crop conditions in real time without the need to create prescription maps beforehand.

The result is more consistent application, improved product placement, and greater confidence that inputs are being applied where they will deliver the greatest return.

Cover More Hectares When Timing Matters

Spray timing can often determine the effectiveness of an application. John Deere's updated See & Spray platform includes improved detection accuracy, higher operating speeds in targeted application modes, and integrated boom lighting for night operations.

Together, these improvements help growers maximise available spraying hours and cover more hectares during critical application windows.

More Than a Sprayer

Alongside the See & Spray enhancements, Model Year 2027 machines introduce a range of new features aimed at improving operator experience and machine productivity.

Updates include:

  • Four-Wheel Steering on select 400 Series models for improved manoeuvrability
  • Crab Steer functionality to reduce crop damage and compaction on headlands
  • Enhanced G5Plus display functionality
  • SmartView camera systems for improved visibility around the machine
  • Improved Operations Center™ integration and reporting
  • Estimated time-to-empty and machine alerts to assist with logistics planning

These features are designed to help operators work more efficiently while providing greater visibility into machine performance and application results.
