Green-on-Green Seeding Shows Its Value

23 June 2026

Can precision technology make seeding simpler rather than more complex? During the 2026 seeding season, Emmetts put John Deere's fully integrated green-on-green seeding system to the test across a range of paddock conditions. The results demonstrated strong accuracy, consistent performance, and reduced operator workload throughout the program.

John Deere's fully integrated green-on-green seeding system is designed to bring the tractor, seeder, air cart, guidance, and automation technologies together into one connected platform.

For growers, the promise is simple: spend less time managing technology and more time focused on getting the crop in the ground.

To see how that promise translates into real-world performance, Emmetts conducted a series of demonstrations during the 2026 seeding season across a range of paddock conditions, soil types, terrain profiles, and crop programs.

The demonstrations featured a fully integrated John Deere seeding solution consisting of a 9R tractor, P660 Precision Air Hoe Drill, and C-Series Air Cart.

The system utilised a suite of John Deere precision technologies, including Implement Guidance, Section Control, Turn Compensation, Integrated Rate Control, AutoTrac™ Turn Automation (ATTA), and John Deere Operations Center™ for data collection and analysis.

Consistent Performance Across Varying Conditions

Across approximately 438 hectares, the integrated system delivered consistent productivity, accuracy, and efficiency regardless of operating conditions.

Implement Guidance maintained accuracy within ±3 centimetres, even on sloping terrain where tractor drift would traditionally affect implement placement.

Rate Control remained within ±0.2 per cent of target rates across all crop types, helping ensure consistent seed and fertiliser application throughout the demonstrations.

Automation technologies, including Section Control and Turn Compensation, operated seamlessly, reducing operator workload while maintaining performance and accuracy.

One of the most notable outcomes was that variations in productivity were largely influenced by paddock layout and workflow efficiency rather than machine performance. The integrated system consistently delivered accurate and repeatable results across the range of conditions encountered.

Performance Highlights
  • 438 hectares seeded
  • Average productivity of 14–15 ha/hr
  • Peak productivity exceeding 17 ha/hr
  • Fuel consumption of 3–4 L/ha
  • Implement Guidance accuracy within ±3 cm
  • Rate Control accuracy within ±0.2%
Precision Without Added Complexity

The value of green-on-green integration extends beyond simply connecting machines.

By bringing the tractor, seeder, air cart, guidance, and automation technologies together into one system, operators spend less time setting up and managing multiple platforms and more time focused on the task at hand.

The demonstrations showed that precision technology does not need to add complexity. Setup was streamlined, automation reduced operator workload, and the integrated system provided clear performance data that can help identify opportunities for ongoing improvement.

For growers, that means greater confidence that every hectare is being seeded as intended, backed by a system that is easier to operate and delivers consistent performance across varying conditions.
